Have you ever wanted to know how you could make money driving with Uber and Lyft? Well, check this out. I’m going to drop some tips on you really quick. These are some things I didn’t know when I got started.
I’ve been driving around, pretty much commercially in the city of Atlanta, GA for approximately 24 years. I’ve had some type of transportation or transportation related job most of my adult life. When I started driving with Uber in 2014, I’m thinking all I had to do was just turn my app on, and then the money would just magically appear.
It Sounds Good But…WRONG!
True enough you can make some money doing that, just turning your app on then hoping and waiting for a call. You will get some calls, but it’s better to have a strategy to profit. That’s what this video is really about, having a strategy.
I’m going to give you three really quick strategies to make money driving with Uber. You can all use these same strategies to make money driving with Lyft.
Tip #1: Drive During Rush Hours
The first tip is to drive during rush hour times. This is when people are going to be needing the most rides. It may be different where you are when your rush hour starts.
Rush hour starts here, in Atlanta, I would say about 6:00am in the morning till about 9:00am. In the evening time it’s about, 3:00pm in the afternoon till about 7:00pm. You want to drive during those times. You’ll have a greater chance of the ride fare being increased because of the demand.
This particular rideshare business model is based on supply and demand, so when the demand goes higher, there’s a greater chance you can do a ride that’s going to have an increased rate.
That’s one of the ways you can make money driving with Lyft and make money driving with Uber.
Tip #2: Drive Near Special Event Locations
Number two is to drive around events. You should drive around the times when your city is having events. Events are another time when demand is going to be high. I’ll give you some good examples. At the time of this post, it’s January 2017. In Atlanta, we just had the playoff game with the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons.
Right after the game, there’s always going to be a high demand of people wanting rides. Usually, in Atlanta, the demand causes an Uber Surge or Lyft Primetime. That’s a good time to drive!
You want to learn the events that are going on in your city as well, not only sporting events, but concerts, conventions and trade shows as well.
I would encourage you to check out my man Calvin over at The Simple Driver. He’s really stresses the importance of knowing when events are happening in your city. Check out his YouTube channel, subscribe to it, and you’ll get some really good tips from him too, as far as planning your trips out, knowing different kinds of routes, and how to “drive with a purpose.”
Like I said, you don’t want to just turn your app on, and just hope. You’ve got to do better than that if you really want to make some money doing rideshare.
Tip #3: Drive Near Airports
The last tip to make money driving with Uber and make money driving with Lyft is going to be to drive around airports.
In Atlanta, your car has to be a certain year model, and you have to be qualified with a special permit to drive at the airport. Here’s why you should drive for the airport: You’re usually going to get a better quality rider. Plus, it’s going generally to be a longer fare.
Most of the time it’s not going to be somebody that’s just going right around the corner. It’s typically going to be a long trip. Case in point, a few weekends ago I had a far that picked up from the Atlanta airport, and it went all the way to Greenville, South Carolina. You’ll get those every now and then.
Those are not going to be every day situations, but you never know if you’re in the right place, at the right time, it might just be your number…and you’ll make some money.
